I am gratified to continue to get calls from woodworking teachers all across North America wanting to award their woodworking students more than just a diploma at graduation. This morning Paul called from Eastern Tennessee with his 2011-2012 planning sheet in front of him. School administrators from coast-to-coast are asking their technical education teachers to find industry sponsored, endorsed, and validated credentials which students can earn. The Woodwork Career Alliance of North America Skill Standards form the basis for these credentials in woodworking. Between now and 2013 the credentialing program will be rolled out across North America. The addition of a credential to a student’s diploma gives him or her a head start toward a good job and lifelong career. We will play a small part in that scenario in the coming years.
