It’s an honor to be in the same room with the dozen excellent candidates at the North Carolina SkillsUSA cabinetmaking competition in Greensboro, North Carolina. The credit for the success of this competition goes, largely, to Kristine Cox of Rowland Woodworking. While she has a few helpers, her enthusiasm and commitment are what makes this contest happen for these young people, the future of our industry.

Each candidate must study engineering drawings, make a cutting list, and imagine the order of events to build the given project in the space of 6 hours. It’s a real challenge.
